Sugie Sartwelle

      Lavinia “Sugie” Sartwelle was elected Chairperson of the Texas Beef Council’s (TBC) board. 

     Sartwelle and her husband James D. Sartwelle Jr., operate livestock markets in Sealy and Brenham.  They also own Sartwelle Brahman Ranch in Sealy where they raise registered Brahman and certified F-1 Hereford-Brahman cattle.

    The Texas Beef Council  leads the state’s producer-run beef marketing organization.  The TBC board of directors consists entirely of beef producers providing representation of the state through geographic region, industry segment, organization affiliation and at-large members.

    “The beef industry is well represented on the TBC board,” Sartwelle said.  “Each director is a beef producer nominated by one of the state’s nine recognized beef industry organizations.”

     Sugie Sartwelle, an at-large member, is the chair of the TBC board. 

     TBC, headquartered in Austin, conducts the $1-per-head checkoff program for Texas beef producers.  Its mission is to increase beef demand in the state through programs of beef promotion, education and research.  TBC also helps fund national and international beef checkoff programs to increase marketing opportunities for the entire U.S. beef industry.

     Sugie has been involved in ABBA through her tireless work with our Brahman youth.  She is the Treasurer of the Ladies of the ABBA and oversees the youth scholarship program that disburses thousands of dollar each year to Brahman Seniors graduates on their way to college.
